When asked to post about anything technology related I could not pass the opportunity to talk about the day that Jo, Tim, Trudi and I spent working on the ICT document for our school. Although nothing of any spectacularly great interest happened during our meeting, it was great to see how the boys of my class reacted to working in the computer lab while I was away.
The set task was for the boys to use a http://www.bighugelabs.com/ tool to create a magazine cover for a poetry book that we are making in class. It is amazing that i could sit in a meeting with three other teachers, away from the class, and I could see the work being submitted via email while not even teaching them.
This may seem trivial as we use email on a daily basis, but to think that these boys were given only a series of photos to use and the URL of the web tool site they could design, edit and publish a brand new creation in less than an hour at the age of 8 is quite amazing.

Excellent Dave. Are you going to upload some of them to your log so that we can have a look?

It conjours up images of sitting at home before a roaring fire while the kids get on with it. It also points to the issue of our role as teachers. We need to point them in the right direction then jump out of the way.
